Google Play Console

Google Play Console is where Android developers publish their apps and track how they perform on Google Play. With Weld you can sync your Play Console reports (installs, crashes, ratings, store listing performance, subscriptions, reviews, earnings and sales) into your data warehouse and combine them with your product analytics, ad spend and revenue data.

Setup Guide - ELT

Step 1 - Find your Cloud Storage URI

  1. Sign in to Google Play Console.
  2. Go to Download reports (for example Download reports → Statistics).
  3. Copy the Cloud Storage URI. It looks like gs://pubsite_prod_rev_01234567890987654321/.

Step 2 - Choose how Weld signs in

Weld can read the reports in three ways. Pick the one that suits your organization:

  • Upload your own service account key (default): use a service account from your own Google Cloud project. In the Google Cloud console, create a service account (or pick an existing one), then go to Keys → Add key → Create new key → JSON and download the key file.
  • Grant access to a Weld service account: Weld creates a service account just for this connection. You don't need a Google Cloud project. Weld shows you its email after you connect.
  • Sign in with Google: Weld reads the reports as the Google account you sign in with. That account needs the permissions listed below in Play Console.

For both service account options, invite the service account's email to your developer account:

  1. In Play Console, go to Users and permissions and click Invite new users.
  2. Enter the service account email (the client_email in your key file, or the Service Account Email Weld shows in the sync settings).
  3. Under Account permissions, grant View app information and download bulk reports and View financial data.
  4. Click Invite user.

Step 3 - Create the connection

  1. In the Weld app, go to Connections and click + New Connection.
  2. Search for Google Play Console and select it.
  3. Choose the sign-in method from Step 2:
    • Upload your own service account key: upload the JSON Service Account Key.
    • Grant access to a Weld service account: no credentials needed. After connecting, copy the Service Account Email from the sync settings and invite it in Play Console as described in Step 2.
    • Sign in with Google: complete the Google sign-in.
  4. Paste the Cloud Storage URI from Step 1.
  5. Click Connect.

Step 4 - Data To Sync

Select the tables you want to sync. You can view the schema, remove columns or hash sensitive information.

Package names: by default Weld syncs every app in the developer account. To limit the sync to specific apps, enter their package names in Package names, separated by commas (for example com.example.app, com.example.other).

The connector offers 21 tables, grouped by Play Console report:

  • Installs: one daily row per app and dimension: stats_installs_app_version, stats_installs_carrier, stats_installs_country, stats_installs_device, stats_installs_language, stats_installs_os_version
  • Crashes: daily crashes and ANRs: stats_crashes_app_version, stats_crashes_device, stats_crashes_os_version
  • Ratings: daily and total average rating: stats_ratings_app_version, stats_ratings_carrier, stats_ratings_country, stats_ratings_device, stats_ratings_language, stats_ratings_os_version
  • Store listing performance: store listing visitors, acquisitions and conversion rate: stats_store_performance_country, stats_store_performance_traffic_source
  • Subscriptions: new, canceled and active subscriptions per product, country, base plan and offer: financial_stats_subscriptions_country
  • Reviews: individual reviews with star rating, text and developer reply: reviews
  • Financial reports: transaction-level earnings and sales across all your apps: earnings, sales

Every table also has a filename and file_last_modified column that point to the Play Console report file each row came from.

Step 5 - Configure sync

  1. Select how often you want the data to sync. Play Console updates its reports about once a day, so a daily sync is usually enough.
  2. Choose a start date. Play Console publishes its reports as monthly files, so Weld syncs every report from the month of your start date onward.
  3. Provide a unique destination table name.

Weld will take over from here and start syncing your Google Play Console reports.
