GENERAL

What is a destination?

In the era of data-driven decision-making, effective data management is crucial for the success of businesses. One solution is the cloud data warehouse, a large-scale data storage and analysis system that harnesses the power of cloud computing. Cloud data warehouses provide a scalable, reliable, and cost-effective method of storing and analyzing large amounts of data in real-time. These data warehouses are the destinations you connect to Weld, allowing your company to become a data-driven business, ready to extract the necessary insights with ease. Read more about these destinations here →.

What is a Weld Managed Big Query Destination?

A Weld Managed BigQuery is a Destination on Google Cloud. It is fully set up by Weld for you, and it is free to use through our platform, up to 1TB of stored data and 5TB queries per month. Learn more here.

Can I connect my BI tool to a Managed Big Query?

Connecting to your BI tool is not available on the Weld Managed Big Query instance. We recommend setting up your own destination before establishing the connection to your visualization tool. Discover more about connecting your own destination to Weld here.

How do I connect my destination to Weld?

Connecting your destination to Weld is done during the initial set up of the account. In the first step of the process, when asked Where should your data be stored?, select a Custom Destination from the list and you will be guided on how to connect it to Weld.

Does Weld store my data?

Weld does not store your data. We are only responsible for the movement of your data from source to destination, meaning we simply help you transfer and make it ready for analysis, activation, and to provide you the best insights.

CONNECTORS

What is a connector?

A connector links our tool to apps, files, ad platforms, and databases to move data to and from them. Each connector supports as many syncs as you need. Click to learn more.

What data sources can I connect to Weld?

Weld supports a wide range of data sources, including databases, cloud storage, and APIs. You can find the full list of supported data sources here.

What if I can't find the connector I need?

We are constantly building new integrations based on customer demand, so let us know by reaching out to one of our specialists through the chat on your workspace! We may be able to add it to the backlog.

However, if you need the data straight away, we recommend that you build a custom connector yourself.

I set up a sync but I can’t see my data.

Initial syncs can take a while to load as they are syncing all the historical data. When the table status says Completed, then the data has successfully finished syncing for that table. Please note that some tables may sync quicker than others depending on the volume of data.

Does Weld need to connect directly to my production database?

No, with high throughput systems, running a high frequency sync with a production database can put unnecessary load onto the running services. One mitigation technique is to create a read replica.

How do I re-authorize my connector / authenticate a connector with a new user?

If you need to re-authorize your connector, the process is very simple: click on workspace SettingsConnections → select the connector you wish to authorize → ConfigurationAuthorize.

How do I run a manual sync of a table?

To manually run a table you can click on the sync you want to run in your Data Sources menu in your workspace, find your table, click the 3 dots beside it, and click Run sync now. If you would like to manually run the entire sync, simply stop and restart the connector.

Can I set up multiple data sources to the same connector?

Yes, with each unique connector you can set up as many data sources as you need. For example, you can connect multiple Shopify stores or Facebook Ad accounts using just one connector for each. Click to learn more.

What are Beta and Soon connectors?

Beta connectors are already live and available to use, but they are still undergoing final testing and improvements. They may not yet have full functionality or complete stability. If you would like to try them out and share feedback, please reach out to our team through the chat in your workspace or on our website.

Soon connectors are currently under active development and will be released shortly. Once they become available, we will post an update on our blog.

PLATFORM

I deleted data in the source but I still see it in Weld?

Weld syncs new and updated rows of data. We do not remove deleted rows. To remove these rows from the database you would need to run a full sync of the table in question.

Can I set up multiple accounts?

Yes, you can create new accounts by clicking your workspace name on the bottom left corner and click Create new destination.

Can I use Python in Weld?

Weld’s core function is data ingestion, so you can connect any transformation tool directly to your warehouse or storage and use Python (or any other language) with your data there. Weld Transform is also available if you prefer to write transformations in SQL directly inside Weld.

Are my SQL queries stored in Weld?

No, all SQL queries published by you are stored in your destination.
Draft models will still persist if you close the app, but will be auto-archived if unused for 24 hours.

Do I need to know SQL to use Weld?

No, you don’t! Weld’s primary role is to move your data reliably into your warehouse or storage, so you can use any downstream tool of your choice without needing SQL. You can analyze and transform your data in Python, BI tools, or other platforms you already use.

If you prefer to work inside Weld, you can use Ed Logo Ed, our AI SQL assistant, or write transformations directly with SQL in Weld Transform. And if you’d like expert guidance, we also work with trusted consulting partners who can help you build a strong data stack. See more here.

How do I rename one of my data sources?

Data sources can't be renamed after being created, as the name can't be changed in the destination. If you need to rename a source you will have to delete it and create it again.

I am getting an error when trying to publish a table.

Check your SQL and see if it runs successfully first, and check to see if you have any columns with the same names. You can always ask our AI SQL assistant, Ed Logo Ed, to help you out figure out the problem!

Is it possible to set notifications/alerts whenever a connector or table fails to materialize?

Yes, email alerts can be enabled in the SettingsNotifications tab. In the same menu you can also set up Slack notifications.

Why am I only seeing the last month of data when I set up my connector?

When we are syncing historical data from your source the last 30 days of data are synced first. A full sync is then ran on all historical data.

Can I re-set the historical data timeframe?

If you selected a specific historical data timeframe when setting up the connector this can't be altered. To sync older historical data you will need to set up the data source once again.

How to change my password for signing into Weld?

To change your password you can click Forgot password? on the log-in screen and you will be sent an email with instructions on how to reset your password.

BILLING

What are Active Rows?

Active Rows refer to any data rows that are updated or inserted during the data syncing process between data sources using our platform. Active Rows typically represent 10–20% of the total rows synced. You can track your usage by navigating to the SettingsBilling page in the Weld app.

The number of Active Rows included depends on your subscription plan. You can see the limits for each plan on our pricing page.

Is there a free plan available for Weld?

Weld does not offer a free plan at this time. However, we understand the importance of trying out a product before committing to a subscription. Therefore, we provide a 14-day trial period with no upfront credit card requirement. This trial period allows you to explore Weld's features and functionalities before deciding to upgrade to a paid plan. Sign up to start your Weld trial today.

How can I see my row usage?

You can view your row usage in the Data SourcesUsage tab. Rows can be viewed by connector or table breakdown, showing both total rows and active rows synced.

If I upgrade to the Premium version now during my test, will that take me out of the trial period?

Upgrading to a paid plan during your trial will not end the trial period. You will still have the 14 days of free usage.

If I pay for an annual plan can I increase my row usage during the year?

Yes, the annual plan can be upgraded to a higher tier subscription plan at any time during the year.

DATA DISCREPANCIES

Why do I sometimes see data discrepancies between Weld and the source system?

Some connectors might show data discrepancies between the data you see in Weld and the dashboard of the original data source. This can be due to several factors, such as API limitations, data processing delays, timezone differences, or differences in data aggregation methods. Below are some common examples and resources to help you understand and troubleshoot these discrepancies. If your issue is not covered here, let us know!

Why do I see differences in Google Search Console data?

This is likely due to the daily limits imposed by the Google Search Console API. Read more in our blog.

Why do I see differences in Amazon Selling Partner / Amazon Ads data?

There are several reasons for discrepancies in Amazon data, including pending orders, timezone shifts, and attribution windows. Many Amazon reports also have a limited retention period, meaning we can’t retrieve data older than a few days. For example, the sponsored_brand_campaign_report (specifically the v2 version from Amazon) only allows access to data from the past 60 days.
You can find more information in our blog post about Amazon's APIs.

Why do I see differences in Google Analytics 4 data?

Data sampling and the HyperLogLog algorithm can lead to discrepancies in the data reported by Google Analytics 4. Learn how these affect the data you see on your dashboard vs the data in Weld by reading our blog.

BI TOOLS

Can I connect a BI tool to Weld?

Yes. Weld loads your data directly into your own warehouse or storage, where you can connect it to the BI tool of your choice. Common destinations include Snowflake, BigQuery, and Databricks, and popular BI tools include Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI, and Mode.
